About Me

Who I am…

This is the stake in the ground for McAllister, Harlan, Kentucky born and raised with some East and West Coast seasoning due to time spent living in both LA and NYC.  So the attitude you see reflected on these pages is Harlan County, blended with New York City, smoothed by the beaches of Southern California and balanced by Central Kentucky.  An odd but overall comfortable combination.  I firmly believe my state’s motto of United We Stand, Divided We Fall – even if it sometimes requires a Louisville Slugger or Maker’s Mark…or both.

I have been fortunate enough to be able to entertain both hemispheres of my brain by being both a professional photographer and systems analyst and have had my photography published in American Heritage, Southern Living, Architectural Digest, House Beautiful, Arizona Highways, along with photographing and publishing over 10 million scenic postcards while, on the other side working with people as diverse as the Air Force, Microsoft, Borland, Qualcomm, Square D Company, Groupe Schneider, BBC, Warner Brothers, CNN, SpaceNet and IBM and appeared in InfoWorld, computerworld and PCWeek as a Systems Analyst and Consultant.

What I write…

Much of what I write will be about economics, politics and the never ending gun violence that is forever tainting our society.  My philosophy is forged by words of my father, my Scoutmaster, my Eagle Scout adviser, others from whom I have learned.  Briefly…

Be Prepared — Robert Baden-Powell

There is LEGAL and there is RIGHT — my father

A man’s heart away from nature becomes hard and a lack of respect for growing, living things soon leads to a lack of respect for humans, too. –Luther Standing Bear

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.” -Steve Jobs

It boils down to this…
We must think about others and look at what can be done to improve the lives of society in general. Sometimes that takes sacrifice, sometimes it takes thinking beyond personal beliefs, sometimes it takes looking at life from a perspective other than that from which you have been given or earned or to which you have been privy. It is often not “How is this going to affect me?”, rather “How is this going to affect those who are least able to effect change upon themselves?”.
